ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ
Rendered by : Gurdip Singh
Untouched,
and Cheerless still
heartbroken
and yearning still
die the young
with unfulfilled
desires at heart,
Only to live a second life.
Shine like stars they in the sky
or remerge as lovely flowers
to yield the love
expressed in colour and fragrance.
Lucky, yet they be
whose destiny is
writ with love and desire,
they carry it with their soul
to the heaven
lest their bodies
dissolve on their own
in their prime of age.
Coy and modest
however they
restrained by the peers
have to yield
to the pressures
and carry their love
nipped in the souls
unexpressed
untouched
unscathed
they live a tormenting life
between
head and heart
passions and reason
oscillating between the two
they perish.
What for?
How many lives,
how many times
one may die
pre-natal and post natal
sometimes losing
sometimes gaining
sometimes facing
or evading
how many times
a life unfulfilled
desires without
consummation
amorous without love
souls deny
the body lives
what is it for?
Untouched
with a yearning still.
